About

Welcome to my blog!

As a newbie to the School Counseling world, I am overwhelmed with the amount of resources at my disposal. Over the past year, I have come across amazing blogs, written by School Counselors themselves. Inspired by their work and ideas, I decided to start a blog of my own. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experiences and resources accumulated through my studies and field work as a School Counseling Intern. I hope to learn from and contribute to this ever growing profession, while offering a place for communication and sharing among all Counselors alike!

A little bit about Me

My name is Alexandra {Alex} and I am Master of Social Work student at California State University, Northridge. I am currently a Mental Health and Social-emotional School Counseling intern at a Middle/High School in Oakland, CA. Born and raised in South Florida, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a Minor in Women’s Studies from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with The Mental Health Association of Central Florida as an Intern andCertified Guardian Advocate. After my college graduation in 2013, I moved two weeks later to San Francisco, California

Since then, I have experienced an incredible amount of personal and professional growth.
I am determined to generate positive changes in the community and shape healthy social-emotional home and learning environments for youth development. I am committed to executing outstanding service, education, and specialized care to the underserved populations in the community. I am continuously: growing in my professional skills, obtaining invaluable knowledge, contributing to social justice policies, and enhancing my cultural competency.  I am driven to empower vulnerable youth and other populations on all levels of practice. My goals are to advocate for students, promote a caring school climate, challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, and further my contributions to education through social justice and community intervention.
